RFI ED talks Illinois’ first-ever public financing program
Sludge interviewed RFI Executive Director Alisa Kaplan about the new Fair Elections Small Donor Matching program that passed in Evanston last month.
“This program aims to raise the voices of people who might otherwise not be heard because they couldn’t afford a big campaign contribution,” said Kaplan. “It’s aimed at empowering candidates who may not be wealthy or have wealthy friends to run competitive campaigns….The goal is to get a government that is representative of all of Evanston’s communities and accountable to all of Evanston’s communities.”
