State Leaders Talking Political Reforms

(AP) Illinois’ legislative leaders are offering their top ideas for political reforms.

Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno says the way Illinois draws its political maps should be altered. A signature-driven ballot measure could appear on the November ballot, though election officials are reviewing signatures.

House Republican Leader Jim Durkin says that there should be an overhaul to lame-duck sessions, when lawmakers on their way out of office are more willing to support tough or controversial issues. He says lawmakers should be sworn in sooner after the election.
