As big donors dominate the mayoral race, RFI pushes for increased transparency and public financing
Sludge interviewed RFI Executive Director Alisa Kaplan about the miniscule role of small donors in Chicago’s mayoral race, as well as RFI’s policy proposals to increase transparency around dark money and to empower small donors.
“There’s been a lot of momentum around campaign finance reform, more awareness around Big Money in democracy and how harmful it can be,” she said. “We see that in the wave of reforms getting passed around the country, and it’s Chicago’s time now.”
