ICPR Furthers Disclosure Initiatives

On Wednesday, the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform’s Deputy Director Sarah Brune testified in front of the Illinois Senate Executive Committee on an amendment to Senate Bill 248. This initiative corrects a loophole in the Illinois Election Code to close reporting gaps for independent expenditures by PACs, Super PACs, and corporations.

Yesterday, SB 248 passed the Illinois Senate with a unanimous vote. This initiative increases transparency by ensuring that independent expenditures are reported prior to Election Day, giving voters and the media a clearer understanding of the influence of money in their elections.
Tackling tough campaign finance issues and loopholes has always been central to ICPR’s mission of promoting transparency and accountability in government. As this bill moves to the Illinois House of Representatives, we ask for your ongoing support.
The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform is hosting a forum on campaign finance reform on Wednesday, April 29th at Columbia College from 11am to 12:15pm. Experts will discuss the loopholes that exist in federal and state campaign finance laws and suggest solutions to a variety of these issues. Paul Ryan from the Campaign Legal Center in Washington, D.C. will be joining us as a panelist for the event. Click Here to Register for the Event.
ICPR would like to extend a special thanks to Senator Julie Morrison and Senator Matt Murphy for their Senate sponsorship. Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie will carry the bill in the House of Representatives.
