Morning Spin: Emanuel in D.C. to Talk Policing, Crime

The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform is mentioned in this article.

via Chicago Tribune

“It’s Wednesday, Jan. 20, and Mayor Rahm Emanuel is in Washington, D.C. where he will take part in a U.S. Conference of Mayors panel on violent crime and policing.

Emanuel’s handling of the Laquan McDonald police shooting and the subsequent fallout has made national headlines for the last two months. That coverage has featured national outlets, editorial boards and columnists offering commentary on the mayor’s police crisis from afar, but Emanuel’s appearance in Washington to discuss the topic will give the reporters assembled in the nation’s capital a fresh opportunity to write about the issue.

The venue also allows Emanuel a chance to try and re-shape national coverage by offering his latest thoughts on how to build better trust between the community and the police as the U.S. Justice Department continues its civil rights investigation into the Chicago Police Department. The mayor’s remarks also will come as violence and police misconduct have become a national issue, from the police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. to Freddie Gray’s death in police custody in Baltimore.”
