Report: Minimum Wage Increase Would Help 1 In 5 Illinois Children

One in five Illinois children have at least one parent who would be impacted by an increase to the state’s minimum wage, according to a new report by Voices for Illinois Children. That works out to be about 583,000 children who would benefit if the state lifts its base hourly wage from the current $8.25 to at least $10.10.

The poverty rate among Illinois children, meanwhile, has jumped from 16 percent in 2005 to 21 percent in 2012.
