Requiring disclosure for paid influencers.
Currently, social media influencers paid by political campaigns do not have to disclose who is paying them. But a resolution introduced by Matt Martin (47th Ward) in Chicago City Council would change that: requiring paid political influencers to disclose who is paying them in their posts.
“Our ordinance would place the burden on both the committee and the influencer, and impose fines on both for violations,” said Alisa Kaplan, executive director of RFI.
