Testifying on dark money at City Hall

At an Ethics and Government Oversight Committee Hearing at Chicago City Council, RFI Executive Director testified on dark money’s impact on Chicago elections and the potential for reform alongside other pro-democracy proposals.

“When campaigns are funded by unknown megadonors, it reinforces people’s perception that government decisions are made in shadowy backrooms by powerful figures they will never see and can’t hold accountable”, Kaplan said. RFI’s proposal would reveal previously unknown donors, identify who is funding political advertisements, and sharpen anti-coordination rules that govern SuperPACs.
